Dyeing Again

Since I didn't have any green fabric on which to stitch my witch boot (say that 5 times fast!) a quick dyeing session was in order. I just took some of the small cuts of fabric I had on hand and off I went. Since I was at it, I decided I needed some black and some purple? too. Yes, the one on the far left is my attempt at purple but it turned out a denim blue. Oh well, it will work well for a night sky sort of feel anyway.

From left to right: 32 ct Belfast Linen, 28 count Monaco Evenweave, 32 ct Belfast Green, 32 Belfast Black, and 28 ct Monaco Black. I used Rit powder dyes for the blue and black and Dylon Jungle Green. I was worried my green wouldn't be the green I wanted but I think it turned out perfectly.

Now to get stitching!

My Downfall(s)

I knew Dogs Day Out would be in trouble once these hit the newsstands. I have the Halloween issue in hand and am eagerly awaiting the release of the Christmas Ornament issue.

I just can't resist these little ornaments. They call to me from the pages when I try to sleep at night. They peek at me when I am stitching something else. What's a girl to do?!
The little witch's boot is a must stitch for me as I seem to have a thing for witch boots lately. Perhaps I should buy myself a pair in which to parade around my house. I already have some purple striped socks and the haggard look which would go together quite nicely. :o) Oh and there is a wonderful larger Halloween piece in there that I love. (It has a black cat that reminds me of Ziggy)

Of course, about the time I get my fill of the little Halloweenie thingys, the next one will arrive and there will be angels, and Santas, and Snowmen humming Christmas carols from within those glossy pages.
Sigh........the poor puppies may have to wait a few months. But then again, I TOLD myself this was going to happen. Why don't I listen to myself?

Ready for September

Here's Mini Ziggy wearing his apple finery. :o) I had a really tough time with the hat as there isn't a whole lot of room between those ears. I found the sweet little apple cross stitch chart here. It seems to me he needs a collar or a little something else. Might have to work on that next.

Have a great week everyone!

A Tree Trunk & A Chipmunk!

Here is a snap of my progress on Dog's Day Out. Please excuse the wrinkles. I have been stitching this in hand but I think I am going to try stitching it in a hoop for a while because my shoulder is killing me today. I don't know if the hoop will make a difference but it is worth a try. For a piece this large, I think a scroll frame would really be better but I don't have one of those right now so a hoop it is.

Apples are coming in at the orchard and DH and I picked Honeycrisp, Gala, and Courtlands today. They also had a few late season peaches left so we picked enought of those to make a cobbler (or two!). It was unbearably hot and humid so we made haste with our picking and came home to the AC realquicklike!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Intimidation

Okay, now I am officially intimidated. Here is the floss toss for Dogs Day Out. That just looks like a million different flosses to me on a huge piece of linen. DMC on the left, HDF silks on the right. I am skeered! Stay tuned...

Summer Saturday

Whoo hoo! My silks arrived from Hand Dyed Fibers today and I can hardly wait to start stitching with them. I also ordered one of the 35 ct linen grab bags in neutrals and the picture above is what I received. I am so excited to finally have some cross stitch fabric stash. These are super lovely and you can see I got a nice assortment of colors.

I finished this patriotic pillow today. As I was putting out my decorations for the 4th of July this year I realized I had NO patriotic cross stitch pieces. It just so happens that Handcrafts Online
was having a wonderful free shipping 4th of July sale and I snapped up the chart for this. She also sent along a free floss and a Patriotic Prairie Schooler pattern which I plan to have stitched before our next Independence Day rolls around.

TGIF!

Whew! What a whirlwind week at work. I am so glad it is Friday.

I participated in a Christmas in July exchange on the Brookes Books yahoo group and received this lovely ornament from Sharon. She said it is adapted from a Shepherd's Bush design. She used my favorite Christmas colors of red, green, and gold. It is backed with a lovely green velvet that feels so soft. I just love it! Another beauty to go on my tree this year.
I finally found my partner in the Tiny Treasures floss tag exchange and was disappointed to find out that my fob never arrived. I also sent her some pretty bird fabric and some floss to go along with the fob. I will be busily stitching another for her this weekend so I can send her a new package next week. You can bet I will put delivery confirmation on this one!
I am anxiously awaiting my silk flosses from Hand Dyed Fibers so I can make a start on Dogs Day out. Vikki was so very helpful when I sent her an email asking to help me with a conversion from the Weeks Dye Works flosses to her silks. I can hardly wait to see them.
That's it for now my friends. I noticed I have a 200 post blogging milestone coming up soon. Seems like a good time for a giveaway. Stay tuned!

Mini Ziggy

Hi everyone! Meet Mini Ziggy. :o) I decided to try my hand at making a stuffed pillow cat. I am pleased with him/her and can hardly wait to dress him/her up for each month and or holiday. I plan to make hats for him and use some of my seasonal small cross stitch pieces to make him a necklace of sorts. I can also picture a bow tied to that curvy tail. (Can you tell I am going to have fun with this?!) I think he will be a nice addition to my hearth.

I am trying to decide whether to make him a hat out of sunflower fabric now or just go right into September with some sort of apple theme. Hmmmm, decisions, decisions.
