Sing a song of sixpence...

... a pocket full of rye. Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie! I couldn't get that little ditty out of my head all day. Here are the results of my labors on Labor Day. I had lots of fun dressing these little guys. The pattern for the bird is from the Tilda book "Sew Pretty Christmas Homestyle"but I changed it up a bit to suit my need for autumn things. Let me introduce you to my flock:
"Black-key"

"Boo"

"Haunty"

"Country"
and last but not least
"Swirly"

I think I am going to make a garland with raffia or twigs and have lots of these "flying" underneath my mantle this fall.

I did find some information on John T. Pullen whose name was in the little book I found. (Gotta love those Google guys) Pullen Memorial Baptist Church still exists in Raleigh, NC - it was begun in 1884. Mr. Pullen was a lay leader in the church. I sent an email to the church secretary to see if she can help me with a little more information on the book itself. I found it very interesting to read about the history of the church.

Back to the grind tomorrow folks! I hope you all had a wonderful, relaxing weekend.

Oh LOVE your little birds Myra - great job!!

And it's wonderful that the church is still open. Hopefully you can find some info on him.

Ray has a "Sunday School Quilt" from the church he's a member of in TN. It's from the 30's I THINK, would have to get it out & look at it again. It's wool & has the names of the church members embroidered on it - including some of his relatives. It does have some damage though, but nothing *terrible*. It's really interesting & we've talked about giving it to the church if they will do something to preserve it. He just isn't ready to let it go yet I don't think.

Once again Myra, your talented sewing is fabulous. The little birds are adorable (names and all) and will add so much to your mantle for Fall.
What will Ziggy, Glitter and Lola think? :)
I'm glad that you have found some info on your recent prayer book. Seems you were meant to have it because you appreciate it! (*HUGS*)

Love 'em all; but I think the first 3 are my favorite--maybe because of their fabulous names! :D

I hope you'll show us another pic of their final display when you get it all set up. :D
