Finally some rain!

We finally got some much needed rain here this weekend.  You could almost hear all the plants sighing with relief.  My cucumbers were about to dry up - hopefully the rain will make them want to give me a few more before they die out.  I do love me some cucumbers.

Since yesterday was quite dreary I decided to sew a basket to sit on the table beside my stitching chair.  It seems I always have a bunch of junk cluttering up the table (remote controls, hand lotion, nail file, calculator, etc.) and I needed a place to put it.
I found this fabric at Hobby Lobby and it matches the colors in my living room perfectly.  I really wanted to trim it in turquoise ric rac but had to settle for brown.  You can find the pattern for this basket here.

Last week I treated myself to a pedicure.  I almost never have my nails done as I am so prone to trashing them as soon as I walk out the door.  The nice lady painted a pretty design on my big toesies.

While having my toes done we were discussing manicures.  The technician started talking about manicures and the new "shellac" polish which will last 3 weeks.  Well, you know that got my attention as the last manicure I had lasted a total of 4 days before it was chipping and looking awful.  Since I was there and might consider having a manicure more often if it lasted more than 4 days, I decided to give it a try.
This is 3 days later and it looks as good as the first day.  I wanted to get a picture so I can see if it really will last 3 weeks.  I also want to make sure it doesn't damage my nails.  Long ago I had the acrylic nails and they pretty much trashed my natural nails.  I have healthy nails now and was assured this new polish is not damaging.  I will keep you posted.  :o)

I hope you are all having a great weekend filled with pretty stitches!  I am off to put some sirloin kebabs on the grill.  Yum!

There is nothing better than a manicure and pedicure. I love the design on your toes. I'm going to have to try something like that. And I love, love that shellac polish, but watch out for it. I am a French Manicure girl all the way, and I usually do the shellac if I'm going on vacation or know that I can't get in for a couple weeks. It will reek havoc on your nails though and make them thin because getting the stuff off involves soaking your nails in acetone or wrapping cotton that has been soaked in acetone around your nails and then in foil of all things. I did it three times in a row and my nails thinned out and I almost never break a nail, but I did break a couple after that. But they seem to last forever and are definitely worth getting once in a while.

Love your basket - it's so cute and that fabric is so pretty. I'm going to have to check out the instructions on your link. I could use something like that for all the junk on our tables too (like the remote, etc.).

Wow, a manicure that lasts 3 weeks? I've gotta try that! The last one I had was for my sister's wedding 2 years ago. It only lasted for the day. I shouldn't have been too surprised though, I was trying to look after a very active one year old at the time!
I love your basket. I certainly could do with something like that to store all of my valuable 'junk'!

Oh Myra - you are so talented! That bag is too cute! I have the little one you made me next to my chair and it is well loved and used!

Your piggies look cute and I'm waiting to see your report on how the manicure holds up!

Your gorgeous pretty basket and the word 'junk' just don't go together Myra, I would be carrying that basket everywhere with me and showing it off!!!
I've never had a pedicure and any manicures are literally there one day and gone the next ~ I think children, bunnies and housework have something to do with that!!!
Have a fun stitchy week xxx

If that polish works, let us know! I don't even make it 3 days before mine chips (and that was before I started farming!). Love your toes, too! :D

Ohhhhh how I do LOVE that basket/bag. I have so many baskets and totes with stitchy things in them it's like Christmas when I go through them every once in a while. I forget what I have accumulated!

Your toes are very pretty. It takes me almost an entire day to do mine myself but they aren't nearly as pretty as yours.

I used to get artificial nails years ago and it slowly disintegrated my nail bed. I wish I had pretty nails like yours. I can't grow them now to save my life!

That is ONE CUTE little basket you have there Myra! A lovely job as always :o)

Well aren't those some 'pretty toes' as my niece would say. LOL!

Mani's and Pedi's are the best right? I used to have those gel overlay nails, which I loved but I had to stop getting them. I started bowling in leagues again after 7 years so I can't have them anymore. I was also religious about pedicures, but haven't been in a while. I tend to get lazy with those.

The stitchy bag is so cute. I will have to keep that pattern and make one for me.

Enjoy your week ;)

Love the pedicure! I'm like you, I ruin manicures by just looking at my finger nails funny. I'll have to try the shellac stuff for the next special occasion I have.

Love the basket Myra! And your fingers and toes looks cute. Love the design. I've heard the same thing about shellac as Deb stated. It's good for vacation or a treat but not something to do continuously as it will damage the nail. I haven't tried it yet but maybe when I go to NY.

Your basket is wonderful and I think the brown ric rack is a much more elegant look than the blue would have been :0) Your manicures are beautiful but it gives me the willies thinking of anyone touching my feet....I'm VERY ticklish LOL.

That is one gorgeous basket, Myra! I really like those colors and actually think I like the brown ric rac better than I would have the turquoise.

Your nails look great!! I have only had one manicure for my sister's wedding over 10 years ago--having anything on my fingernails drives me batty! I do my own pedicures during the summer--not the greatest, but good enough :)

Hope you keep getting more rain. We had a huge amount today--the lawns are greening up nicely...

Your basket is gorgeous! I hardley ever poay money to have my toe or finger nails done as they get wrecked to quickly too! But maybe if this three week stuff works, I'll have to reconsider!

I love your basket. The colors are lovely and I appreciate your sharing the link. I've been wanting to do something like that for myself and her instructions are great.

As to the Shellac. I love Shellac! So much so that I used my Christmas bonus last year and bought the light and the polish and do my own nails now. I've never had any problems with it. I wore acrylics and gels off and on for 26 years and this stuff is nothing like that. As to lasting 3 weeks, 2 weeks is what it was designed for and I don't like the way my nails look after that long. I tried it for 3 weeks once and I couldn't stand the grown out part not being shiney, plus the polish tends to change color a little...the white starts to look dingy. I also will put on some cuticle oil every 3 days or so (when I'm getting ready for bed) to keep my cuticles looking nice and not dried out.

Love your basket! Gorgeous fabric colours! Nothing like a pedicure and manicure to make a girl feel good! Great nails!

Wow that basket is GORGEOUS!

Aren't your toes just fun?

That basket is fantastic!! Gorgeous work.

Love manis and pedis! I miss having them done. I used to get gel nails done but quit when the recession set in here. It did trash my nails, though--it took about 6 months for them to get back to normal. I won't tell you what my daughter calls my nails now, I'll just say that she tells me I look unfeminine w/o them being done. ;) She's a red nail polish girl all the way. Your toenails with the design on them look great!
