Final 2013 Finishes

I wanted to pop back in before 2014 and share my last two finishes of the year.   I spent some time finishing today and here are the results:

"Mary's Sampler" finished as a pillow.  I kept this simple and just added brown chenille trim.

"Peace" by Blackbird Designs -- in the 2013 JCS Ornament Issue
I decided to frame this one instead of making it into an ornament.  This way I can display it all year.
I just love that big ole dove!
I spent the afternoon sorting and organizing my charts.  They were such a mess.  I have several things that need to be relocated so look for some chart giveaways soon.   I also kitted up my New Year's start for 2014 - Lone Elm Lane's "Snow Angel".
Do you start a new project for the new year?  I would love to hear what you are going to be stitching.

The Best Laid Plans....

Well friends, when I last posted I had planned to post some pictures of my tree and decorations before Christmas.  Well.....that didn't happen, did it?

On Christmas Eve Eve we discovered a large lump on Lola's leg.  So I took her to work with me on Christmas Eve and surgery was scheduled for the day after Christmas.  She is almost 11 years old so the thought of putting her under anesthesia scared me.  On Christmas day DS tells me he thinks he felt a lump on Glitter's shoulder.  Sure enough, she also has a lump.  The day after Christmas, when I was supposed to be enjoying a quiet day of vacation at home, I load up both pets and take them to work with me.

Thankfully Glitter's lump was just an abscess caused by who knows what since she is always inside.  She had the abscess drained and an antibiotic and pain injection and all is now well with her.  Lola had surgery to remove her lump and it has been sent to the lab to determine exactly what it is.  I lost a Great Dane to cancer and I am hoping and praying Lola's isn't cancerous.  She is recovering with a bandage on her leg and her incision looks great.

Christmas here was great even though I was a little stressed out about the furbabies.  I did manage to get some pictures of my little primitive tree.

I had hoped to have more stitched ornaments on it this year but alas, this is the only one.  I did manage to fill it with some other things....

Rusty stars

and snowflakes.

Tin cardinals I picked up at Wal-Mart after Christmas last year.

Cinnamon applesauce ornaments I made just a few days before Christmas.  These smell so good!

I finished it off with a homespun skirt and my wooden bowl with the icicle snowmen.  Doesn't Shirlee's gift from last year look great underneath it?

I just love the way it looks and may leave it up for a while after Christmas since it isn't so very Christmassy.
I used a Groupon a few weeks ago with Staples and look what arrived today:

I scanned my Carolina sampler and had these mugs and ornament made.  I just love them.
Merry Christmas to me!  :o)
And look what Santa brought Lola:

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this cardinal dog toy!  Like mother like doghter, right?  LOL
Thank you for the wonderful comments and your continued visits.  I really appreciate YOU!

Three more sleeps...

...and a day and a half of work.  Yes, friends it is almost here.  Are you ready?  I think I am.

The mail brought some delightful surprises this week.

Carol sent this wonderful PS Santa ornament, cardinal creamer, chocolates,  and toy shoppe chart.  Isn't that ornament just perfection?  And you all know I just love that cardinal creamer!

From Norma I received this gorgeous mixed media ornament.  Isn't that little angel so sweet?

And Vera sent me this wonderful package of goodies - Christmas socks, chocolate, face wipes, and a wonderful cardinal tin.   Love it all!
Thank you Carol, Norma, and Vera for making me feel so special.  :o)

Some of you may remember my little gift designs from Christmas last year.  Robin in Virginia sent me these pictures of her finishes of them.

Didn't she do a great job on them?  Thank you Robin for sharing your pictures.  I am so happy you enjoyed stitching them.!
I have a busy day planned.  I need to make a couple of pillowcases for my boys, I plan to bake a couple of loaves of sweet potato bread to give as gifts, and I want to make another batch of Chex Mix to snack on.
I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!  I plan to be back with one more post before Christmas to share my finish of Mary's Sampler and a few pictures of my decorations.

Busy, busy, busy

Hello friends!  It is such a busy time of year, isn't it?  I am enjoying all the hustle and bustle but I find myself looking forward to the quiet downtime that comes with January.

This past weekend was a fun one.  The Piedmont Heritage Sampler Guild had our Christmas meeting on Saturday which consisted of a wonderful breakfast followed by a freebie chart exchange.  Thank you Elizabeth for being our hostess with the mostest and welcoming us into your lovely home.  Chris took wonderful photos so please head over to our blog and have a look.

On Sunday, I met Chris for breakfast and to give her a few little Christmas gifts.  Here is what I made her:
A dear friend had gifted me with 2 of these old mill spools and I had been saving them just waiting for the perfect use for them.  You may remember my post trying to obtain the perfect round sewn snowman head.  Well, this is where that head rests now.  :o)

I added a few little details such as these rusty jinglers, holly leaves, and candy cane twine.

And you just can't have a snowman without a cardinal friend.  :o)

He is grunged up a bit with coffee and tea and sports a fabulous carrot nose!
I am happy to say Chris likes him and I had so much fun creating him for her.
I plan to make another one for myself but that will have to wait until after Christmas.
Chris spoiled me with these:
A wonderful ornament made by a local potter and this cute Chessie and Me kit.  She also gave me the next installment in the Seasons of Chessie - winter, a yummy smelling bar of soap, and some delicious chocolate but I totally forgot to get a picture of it.
Thank you so much Chris I just love everything!
I'll be back soon to share some pictures of another gift or two that I received from some special friends.  I feel so blessed!
Have a great rest of the week and don't forget to slow down and enjoy the season.

Those of you who have read my blog for any length of time know of my affinity for cardinals.  What can I say?  I love them.

This week dear, sweet Shirlee surprised me with not one...not two...but three pieces of lovely cardinalness.  (<---- a="" is="" p="" too="" word="">
Isn't this ornament just perfect?  I love the little pinecone and greenery at the top and the rick rack looks like an icing made of snow.

As if that wasn't enough she also sent me Just Nan's Cardinal Tweet kit and 5 pieces of fabric for finishing.  I feel like Santa has already arrived.  :o)  Thanks again Shirlee and my sincere thanks also to that extra special helper you have.  ;o)
Our Sampler Guild is having our Christmas breakfast tomorrow.  Should be fun!
Thanks for visiting and have a wonderful weekend!

A Gift

Hello friends!
Are you about ready for Christmas?  I have plenty of spirit but not plenty of time these days it seems.  I have been enjoying reading all your lovely posts.  So many pretty things to see and so much inspiration!  Thank you for sharing.

I was surprised this week with a gift in my mail from Cindy.

I had admired this design and just love the beads on the boughs.  So pretty!  The finishing fabric and trim matches it just perfectly.  Thank you so much Cindy!
I have another busy day at work tomorrow and a busy weekend ahead.  I hope you all are enjoying all the gifts this season has to offer.
